It starting irking me when my Windows 7 would start to switch between Aero to Basic but doesn’t switch back until either a restart or relogging in. Not that it bothers me that much since boot times are great with SSD’s but its the inconvenience of saving all my work and then doing so. So I searched the web for a fix to this, there is a couple ways but the stupid simple methods didn’t work for me and as with everything I seem to have a problem with, if you want to fix something, you have to get your hands dirty. In this particular sure-fire fix I had to do a quick tweak in the Registry followed by some command console to have this problem 100% completely rectified.
- Pull up start menu and type in “regedit” and hit enter
- Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/DWM
- Change Composition Data from 0 to 1
- Change CompositionPolicy Data from 0 to 2
- Exit regedit
- Pull up start menu and type “cmd”
- Right click on the search result and “run-as administrator”
- The command console app should open
- Enter “net stop uxsms”
- Wait until you can type again
- Enter “net start uxsms”
- Voila should restore your Aero features
